It’s time to ask the editor!
I’ve compiled a list of questions and the lovely Abigail Fenton, Editorial Director at HarperCollins, HQ Digital, has answered them. Read on to find out more about the work of, and some top tips, from one of the best editors in the business!
Today’s question is all about social media. How powerful is social media for publishers these days?
Abi says:
Hugely. It means we can speak directly to readers and tell them about the authors and books we publish and why they’re so brilliant. We can build a network of people who love the kinds of books we publish and share our titles with them, and it can be a much friendlier, more informal way of doing that. I also love to see people talking about my authors’ books online, sharing their reviews and recommending them – book bloggers in particular are so fantastic at sharing the books they love!
Thanks Abi!
At the moment, social media is proving to be a bit of a tricky subject! I normally love being online but with all the Coronavirus stuff, I know myself and a lot of other people are limiting our time online. Having said that, the book community has always been amazing and have continued to be incredibly supportive providing people with book recommendations and helping others find escapist reads when we’ve needed them most. I also really want to echo Abi’s thoughts and give a massive shout out to all the book bloggers out there! You guys are amazing!
Thank you so much to Abi for taking the time to answer my questions. Her workload is CRAY-ZEE! So I’m so grateful to her for humouring me and my blog!
Abi is Editorial Director, HQ at HarperCollins and before that was Commissioning Editor at Bookouture.
