So we’re just over half way through National Novel Writing Month! How’s your writing attempt going? I’m currently at just under 50,000 words but the next two weeks are manic!
I’ve been working on a new mystery and it’s going pretty well so far. I’m discovering that I really could have done with plotting it out a bit more because I’m having to make changes as I go which I know will result in some giant plot holes to fix during the re-draft, but never mind. The important thing is to get the words on paper.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to write everyday but I’m working hard to hit that 50k target by the end of the month. The plan is that I’ll then wrap up the first draft before Christmas and I can have a bit of time off, or start a new project if I want to. I’ve got some great ideas for a new romcom that I’m dying to explore!
The hardest thing about NaNo is stopping myself from editing as I go. I have to resist the urge to keep pressing backspace and deleting sentences! I am getting better at making notes in the margin though!
It’s weird to think that this time last year I was an unpublished author doing NaNo for myself. This year, the book I’m writing isn’t under contract but I do have other commitments. I’m working hard to promote The Little Theatre on the Seafront and that involves much more social media stuff then I’ve ever done before!
This month I’m taking stock of how far I’m come and celebrating that success! I still can’t believe I’ve got a contract with an amazing publisher and I feel truly blessed. So whether I win NaNo or not, I’m just chuffed to be where I am today.
Let me know where you are with your NaNo journey in the comments below!
